Using Semantics for Automated Policy Compliance

Many large enterprises must comply with a diverse set of policies and regulatins, both internal and external to the enterprise. The cost of ensuring compliance with these policies can sometimes be quite high due to the need for human policy experts and analysts evaluating if the enterprise is in compliance.

Semantic technologies such as the Web Ontology Language (OWL) and the Rules Interchange Format (RIF), can be used to create formal descriptions of an enterprise that can to enable a fully automatic policy compliance solution.

Semantic Software Architecture
